For nearly decades now the Cullens have skipped from town to town without being known for what they really are. Immortals, the living dead, vampires. Their most recent residence is located in the rural town of Forks were rain is more common than sun and a constant cloud cover prevents them from drawing suspicion to themselves.
Disguised as a normal and adopted family of Carlisle and Esme Cullen, it's hard to think of them for what they really are. Decades before the Cullens had struck a bargain with the shape shifter pack of La Push; if no human blood is spilled they may live in their respective area of Forks. It was easy for the vegetarian vampires to accept that proposal and so they have been living in harmony with shifters and humans for years now.
But their good luck is about to end.
Several days ago Alice had a vision of a vampire coven new to Forks, the kind that actually prey on humans. Such a coven existing in Forks would jeopardize their treaty with the wolf pack of the town and attract the attention of more powerful, stricter vampires who might decide that their existence has become a threat to the race. More importantly, the humans living within Forks are in an incredible amount of danger.
To make matters worse the new coven have not introduced themselves to the Cullens, showing their lack of concern for the vampire family. However, their presence within the High School is enough to cause a disturbance for the long lived Cullens as their talents range far beyond that of the Cullens. But it seems that the new coven is after much more than a new home and a little neighborly competition.
Their purpose in visiting is to find a liable mate for one of their coven, out of the humans, and they don't seem opposed to grabbing a few snacks along the way. When blood is spilled and a human is changed the Cullens will find their sanctuary punctured, tainted, and the treaty between them and the wolves will be dissolved; Forks will be spilled into war. Unable to accept the destruction of their sanctuary and repel the powerful bloodsuckers that have decided to live within Forks, the Cullens will have to fight a war of more than the usual strengths.
On top of that Edward has found a sudden attraction to a new girl by the name of Bella Swan, a human who moved into Forks a few days ago. This sudden distraction could be the end of the peace that they've kept for years, by their own hands, and Edward will have to fight hard to resist the temptation he has been denying for centuries. Edward's desire for Bella Swan stems way beyond blood lust, he finds himself falling in love with her, unable to kill her despite his every desire to do so.
Things aren't looking good for the Cullens and Forks and this time there may be no happy ending. Only time can tell.
